Young Leaders' School (202)
Young Leaders’ School is working with young people to strengthen them and to form leadership skills. The work is carried out in 9 municipalities of Western Georgia - Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Khoni, Terjla, Senaki, Poti, Khurcha / Koki (Zugdidi municipality), Lanchkhuti, Ozurgeti. These are information meetings about gender and domestic violence, workshops on conflictology for young people, meetings with boys, formation of a group of young trainers, trainings and various meetings with participation of young people.
Online meetings were held with the youth clubs of Terjola, Zugdidi and Kutaisi on an interesting topic - harmonious relations between family members for violence prevention.
Discussion of the topic caused the maximum involvement of participants. They noted how important the harmony in the family, the support from the parents is. Young people addressed the issue of traditions, the inclusion of parents in the choice of professions.
One of the club members noted that a conversation on such topics changed his attitude to the family, he was filled with love, and when you think about love, you become kinder.
On June 2, 3 and 5, online meetings were held with members of conflict management group in schools of the villages Anaklia (Zugdidi municipality), Teklati (Senaki municipality) and Kulashi (Samtredia municipality).
Pupils were familiarized with the topic of June: “Methods of Peaceful Resolution of the Conflict”. Later, this video lesson was posted on the Facebook page of the Fund “Sukhumi”.
After the meeting, the students began to prepare the tasks - video appeals, essays, paintings, as well as feedback - how the project work affected them.
The “Conversation with Mothers” was continued. The first meeting of June was held, and information on this was published on the Facebook page.
In May, the topic of online meetings with the boys was “Tolerance.” The Fund “Sukhumi” trainer contacted schools in the municipalities of Terjola, Zugdidi, Tsalenjikha, Kutaisi, Senaki, Poti, and Lanchkhuti. Online meetings were held both in groups and individually. The boys noted that this word is familiar for them, they often heard it know not so much about its meaning. Therefore, the first thing that was done during the meetings was an explanation of the essence of “tolerance”. There was a long discussion regarding whether it is possible to study and become tolerant, and how important it is to live in a tolerant society.
There was also an innovation in the work - the trainer asked several teachers to share their experience. According to the teachers, they use different methods while working with students: videos, cartoons, presentations. Gradually, they also take positive steps in terms of online learning.

In early May, three online meetings were held with youth clubs. This time, pupils from the schools of Lanchkhuti, Kutaisi, Nayui96evi (Samtredia municipality) joined the meetings. The meetings discussed important topics: the problem of violence among adolescents, the role of school and family, and protection mechanisms. The participants spoke openly about the reasons of violence, about the problems of communication between teenagers, parents and teachers, and gave examples. Emphasis was placed on the growth of cases in a pandemic situation, as well as on the ways of solution.
In May the work with members of conflict management groups was continued again online. On the Facebook page of the Fund “Sukhumi”, the conflict expert uploaded another video lesson on the topic: “Possible results of conflict, styles of behavior in a conflict situation”.
The online meetings were held with pupils from School number 2 of the village Pakhulani (Tsalenjikha municipality), the village Dvabzu (Ozurgeti municipality) and the village Kulashi (Samtredia municipality). They listened to a video lesson, started to record videos on the topic of conflict and COVID-19, prepared essays and drawings, as well as participating in the interesting section “Letter to a Trusted Person”.
The first letters were published on the Facebook page of the Fund “Sukhumi”.
The topic for discussion in the youth clubs of a private school in Poti, the schools of the village Gvankiti (Terjola municipality) and school number 5 in Kutaisi, as in other clubs, was tolerance.
The meeting was again held online, as it is still forbidden to leave houses.
Young people were actively involved in the discussion. Their analysis on the topic of tolerance was interesting. After the meeting, they announced initiatives – to write an essay, record videos. School directors and teachers are very pleased with the pupils’ activity.

April was unusual. Again, in a remote mode. The trainer contacted boys from schools in the municipalities of Terjola, Zugdidi, Tsalenjikha, Kutaisi, Senaki, Poti, Lanchkhuti. There were group and individual online conversations. When it is difficult to communicate via the Internet, phone calls are used.
The topic of the month is a man, as the best defender and partner. The guys actively participated in the discussion. According to them, the role of men is special during the crisis - as the best advocates and partners, they must do everything to ensure that their families are not stressed.
The trainer Beka Potskhveria recorded a video lecture for groups of participants. The guys responded actively: they made a video, wrote an essay - all this is posted on the Facebook page of the Fund “Sukhumi”, and thus hundreds of people received important information.
On April 13, 15 and 16, three more online meetings were held with members of conflict management groups - in public schools of the villages of Dzevri (Terjola municipality), Kulashi (Samtredia municipality) and Kutaisi school number 13.
The pupils watched the video lesson and then together with the trainer talked about conflict escalation, discussed the stages, got the task - to record video calls about the conflicts and COVID-19, to write an essay and draw ... The teenagers started to do their homework with great interest, and some already have sent their work.
Online meetings were held with youth clubs of the public schools in the villages Menji (Senaki municipality), Ganmukhuri (Zugdidi municipality) and Ozurgeti.
The topic of discussion was tolerance, which is quite relevant in a pandemic - and today there is a lack of understanding and love. The students prepared and posted three videos on the Facebook page of the Fund “Sukhumi” on the topic of the pandemic. This is the result of their initiative and active group work.
On April 7, 8 and 10, online meetings were held with members of conflict management groups of public schools in the village Supsa (Lanchkhuti municipality), Dvabzu (Ozurgeti municipality) and Teklati (Senaki municipality).
The students, together with the trainer, discussed the topic “Conflict Escalation”. They gave concrete examples from their lives. Then they started doing homework: video appeals about conflicts and COVID19, essays, drawings ... Some works have already been published on the Facebook page of the Fund “Sukhumi”.
It should be noted that the South Caucasus Regional Peace building Platform thanked our organization for working with schoolchildren in a pandemic situation. Its Facebook page says: We are pleased that in this situation our partner organization, the Cultural - Humanitarian Fund “Sukhumi” continues online seminars on conflict management. Many thanks to Larisa (Lela) Shengelia, who leads this work.
