Women Support Centers (530)

Women Support Center these are the branches of the Fund “Sukhumi” in Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Khoni, Terjola, Senaki, Poti, Khurcha / Koki (Zugdidi Municipality), Lanchkhuti, Ozurgeti, created since 2009. The centers are designed to strengthen women, provide social, psychological, legal assistance to women - victims of violence and to crisis families in a difficult life situation. They promote to the protection of women's rights and ensure their socio-psychological rehabilitation.

In frames of the small project of Tskaltubo Women Support Center, an informational meeting was held in May with the parents and the school directors. There was a conversation about violence and its consequences. From the side of the participants, it was noted that such meetings are important for realizing how seriously the violent environment affects the development of the adolescent, and prevents the formation of a healthy society.

The small project of Ozurgeti Women Support Center is at an active stage. In May, a training was held for representatives of the Mayor in 7 villages and for the activists. They got acquainted with the mechanisms that will help in responding to domestic violence. A meeting of kindergarten teachers with a lawyer and a psychologist was organized. The conversation was about violence against children - how to identify a child victim of violence, and whom to address for response.

Meetings were also continued with members of the group, created in frames of the project and responsible for identifying and response to violence.

In frames of the small project of Lanchkhuti Women Support Center “Medical staff against violence, informational meetings were held with the referral mechanisms. The aim of the meetings is to improve coordination between the subjects, facilitating the exchange of information. This will help to see what steps is needed to be taken realistically so that they were actively involved in violence prevention. The participants noted that there is no practice of such meetings, and this is very important.

A workshop was held in the office of the Fund “Sukhumi” with the mobilizers of the Women Support Centers of 9 municipalities. The meeting summarized the current work. The problems in the municipalities were also identified. Prior problems were named among  them and future project ideas will be developed according to them.

It was noted that such meetings are important in order to exchange information.

In May, 27 mobilization meetings were held in 9 Women Support Centers. The main topic was: International Day of Family. The participants discussed topical issues: importance of family institution, gender roles, internal and external factors ...

The meetings were held on the background of active discussions. It was noted that a conversation on a similar topic is especially good with young people so that they realize the responsibility of creating a family. Beneficiaries received answers to many important questions, including those about the services existing in the municipality. All this helps to improve the situation of families.

In May, meetings of a lawyer were held in different groups and individually. Earlier this month, the meeting was organized by Senaki Women Support Center. Then the lawyer was invited to the Women Support Centers of Khoni, Tskaltubo, Khurcha / Koki (Zugdidi municipality) and Ozurgeti. The meetings were also held in Kutaisi office of the Fund "Sukhumi". The topics of the meetings were different, but mostly the conversation was about domestic violence and mechanisms of victim protection.

At the end of April, work began on May 14 and the assignment of victim status to one woman was completed. Fund "Sukhumi" actively helps everyone who needs it.

The chess tournament - this sports activity was hosted by the school of the village Teklati (Senaki municipality), and it was held by the members of the initiative group of Teklati and nosiri schools. At the end of the competition, the winners received symbolic prizes.

The teachers of these two schools noted that it is good to introduce such a practice among young people in order to popularize a healthy lifestyle. The tournament was organized in frames of Senaki Women Support Center small project.

Workshops with young people on the topic of domestic violence were held in the villages - Gocha Jikhaishi and Nakhakhulevi (Khoni municipality). The meetings were organized by activists of a youth initiative group created in frames of a small project of Khoni Women Support Center.

The topic was relevant for the participants, and the workshops were held on the background of their active involvement. It was noted that non-formal education of adolescents in this regard is very important, and it is necessary to inform population of any age about zero tolerance in relation to any kind of violence.

In frames of a mini-project of the Poti Women Support Center, a training was held on the following topic: “Mechanisms of Violence Prevention”. The training was attended by heads of kindergartens, teachers, parents.

- What are the responsibilities of kindergarten teachers in the prevention of violence, what is the meaning of gender education of children, what should be done for prevention. Focus was made mainly on these issues and the work was carried out through the analysis of real cases

The project also envisaged a meeting with the inclusion of a child psychologist and a social agent. Participants noted that the training and the meeting were very important for them in terms of getting information.

Meetings with couples continue. In April, three couples used the advice of psychologist and conflictologist. Meetings are envisaged for prevention of conflict situations at an early stage. The methods, used during the meetings, help couples to overcome the risks of conflict.
