On September 5, the field monitors of the Fund “Sukhumi” held informational meetings with the population in Kutaisi and Tskaltubo. Participants were provided with information obtained as a result of the research: what is the impact of the presidential election in Abkhazia on the population, how high are the risks of conflict. The participants spoke about the need to introduce the system of GREWs in practice.

The focus groups and in-depth interviews in Bagdati, Zugdidi and Vani municipalities, gathered information on the following issues: the role of local self-government in violence prevention and victims assistance, the effectiveness of the work of gender council, cooperation and coordination with referral subjects. Participants of monitoring spoke about achievements and challenges.

The meetings were held as part of the monitoring of the “Law of Georgia on the Elimination of Domestic Violence/Violence Against Women, Protection and Assistance to the Victims”.

- Gender Responsive Early Warrnins System - how this system is implemented in practice, what methods are used by the group of the Fund “Sukhumi”, what are the difficulties and results.

In order to identify these issues, an international expert Felipe Daza visited the Fund “Sukhumi” for two days. At the consultation meeting, project participants talked about how they collect information, how media monitoring, systematization of data, and analysis are held. The consultant got acquainted with the electronic program for calculating data and gave relevant advice.

The coordinator of the Swedish organization Kvinna till Kvinna in Georgia Etuna Nogaideli, international expert Felipe Daza and representatives of the Fund “Sukhumi” visited the conflict villages - Khurcha (Zugdidi municipality) and Pakhulani (Tsalenjikha municipality).

- How field monitors work on conflict dividing line, what are the difficulties, how are the beneficiaries selected, how much is confidential information of respondents protected during data collection, how is information sent – the meetings were mainly focused on these issues.

The guests also visited in the territories near existing checkpoint of the village Pakhulani and the closed point of Khurcha. The received information will be reflected in the organization’s reports.

- How high is the interest of citizens in election processes in Abkhazia, what is its impact on the Georgian population, how high are the risks of conflict development, what sources of information are used by the citizen, and how much do they trust media, what are the attitudes of IDPs, local population and residents near the conflict zone to these issues - field monitors collect the information weekly, and they are supplemented and updated systematically.

As a result of systematization of received materials, an analysis is made using the system of GREWS.

On July 17, the final meeting of working group localization 1325 resolution of UN Security Council of the Tsalenjikha municipality was held. The expanded meeting of the Fund "Sukhumi" and the working group of 1325was held in Sakrebulo. The members of the meeting spoke about implementation of the plan, what are the results and how to continue the work. One of the main issues was planning and successful implementation of the budget changes, the activities outlined in the gender budget program.

Together with representatives of the Fund “Sukhumi”, the issues, that are important for the joint work were identified. First of all, it is the integration of the IDP community and its support, promotion of women's economic activities, promotion of gender education.

The lessons of polymer clay were finished in the day center of the Fund "Sukhumi" in frames of the partner project of the organization “Human Doc Foundation”, “Supporting the Domestic Violence Prevention System”, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Cooperation Development of Poland.

The presentation was impressive. Participants presented their works done during the entire project period, they briefly talked about their personalities, the positive results and impressions in terms of professional development as well as personal relationships.

- What is the gender policy of local self-government, how the municipal programs contribute to violence prevention, what programs are in support of the victim, what is the coordination with other referral subjects - these and other issues were discussed in the questionnaires conducted in the municipalities of Khoni, Samtredia, Lanchkhuti, Senaki.

In the format of focus groups and in-depth interviews, 16 people were interviewed. The research was conducted in the frames of monitoring the “Law of Georgia on the Elimination of Domestic Violence/Violence Against Women, Protection and Assistance to the Victims”.

On June 20-21, informational meetings were held between the participants of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism and representatives of civil society in the villages near the boarding line - Pakhulani (Tskalenjikha municipality) and Khurcha (Zugdidi municipality). The meeting was attended by representatives of the Office of the Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civil Equality and the State Security Service, local NGOs, the European Union Monitoring Mission, the UN Women's Organization, IDPs and conflict-affected population, representatives of local government structures.

The meetings were organized with the participation of the Fund "Sukhumi".

What challenges are faced by local population, how the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism can be used, how important is the dialogue between local civil actors and the government - such topical issues were discussed during the meetings.

A partner project: “Reinforcing the Domestic Violence Prevention System, Victims Support and Perpetrators Therapy System” is being implemented in the Fund “Sukhumi” with the support of HumanDoc foundation (Poland).

In May, professional courses in three directions started in Kutaisi - the producing the polymer clay products, training in sewing and accounting. Women and girls learn new professions - this will help them to improve the economic situation in the family.
