Women Support Centers (530)

Women Support Center these are the branches of the Fund “Sukhumi” in Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Khoni, Terjola, Senaki, Poti, Khurcha / Koki (Zugdidi Municipality), Lanchkhuti, Ozurgeti, created since 2009. The centers are designed to strengthen women, provide social, psychological, legal assistance to women - victims of violence and to crisis families in a difficult life situation. They promote to the protection of women's rights and ensure their socio-psychological rehabilitation.

7 questionnaires were filled in August in Women Support Centers of Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Senaki, Poti, Ozurgeti, Khurcha/Koki (Zugdidi municipality).the mobilizers described real cases – violence from the side of family members, especially from the side of husband. They re-addressed 4 women for the consultations to psychologist and one will receive legal consultation.

"When a conflict happens inside us, we do not know how to behave. Aggression often comes out and we spoil relations with people who are very close to us - similar remarks were made by young people during workshops when discussing personal conflicts and their management.

Participants believe that informing about conflict management, since personal conflicts negatively affect a person and contribute to the development of violence in the family.

Workshops were held in Tskaltubo, Terjola, Zugdidi, Khoni and Poti. 41 young people participated in them.

The Poti Women Support Center started working on a new small project. In frames of the project "Harmonious Environment for Children", information meetings were held with the chairpersons of the kindergarten No 16 and with the deputy of Gender Equality Council of Local Government.

The aim of these meetings is to plan the events and solve the organizational issues of the training, which will be held in September for the teachers of the kindergarten.

Participants of the project were provided the information leaflets about the project, developed by the Women Support Center.

"Do not be patient, break the silence!" - this is the name of the new small project of Khurcha / Koki Women Support Center (Zugdidi Municipality). In frames of the project, an information meeting with the women group was held in the village Orsantia. During the meeting there was discussion about violence in the family and violence against women, and also about planned activities. The meeting was also held with the representative of the City Hall.

Women Support Centers of the Fund “Sukhumi” actively work in 9 municipalities (Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Khoni, Terjola, Senaki, Poti, Zugdidi, Ozurgeti, Lanchkhuti).

In July, the mobilizers of the Centers held 27 information meetings with different groups. During the meetings, the issue of the legal status of women, forms of violence against women were discussed. The participants of the meetings were also introduced to local social programs.

Working with crisis families is one of the priorities in the project "Strengthening of Women Rights in Western Georgia". The meetings of a conflictologist and a psychologist with married couples continue. As a result of the periodic sessions there are changes in the relationship of the couple. Parties try to change forms of communication and establish stability. Individual advices help them in keeping stability. These advices are given after each session.

Mobilizers of Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Senaki, Poti, Lanchkhuti, Ozurgeti, Khurcha/Koki (Zugdidi Municipality) Women Support Center have filled in 8 questionnaires in July. The questionnaires show real cases of violence from the side of husband and other family members.

Only two victim women addressed the psychologist, one of them was given the legal consultation and she was redirected to relevant structure.

In July, psychologists of the Fund "Sukhumi" worked actively. Individual psychotherapeutic counseling was continued, 5 beneficiaries were consulted.

"We work on the correction of the model of behavior, the technique of correction in relations. One of the women has already coped with depression, "- says one of the psychologists.

Psychologists meet married couples and women of a risk group. Together they work on techniques of conflict management and avoid negative emotions.

Consultations are held in the Women Support Centers of Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Senaki, Poti, Tskaltubo, Khoni, Ozurgeti. They already have tangible results.

Family rights, rights and conditions of marriage - this was one of the issues that were discussed at meetings with lawyers of the Fund "Sukhumi".

Participants of the meetings received much necessary information that will help them to solve their problems. Both group and individual consultations were held for the beneficiaries of the Women Support Centers of Tskaltubo, Senaki, Ozurgeti. The Women Support Center of Khurcha / Koki (Zugdidi Municipality) organized a group meeting in the village Kakhati.

Discussions of such real stories were held with young people on the topic "Women's Migration - Relationship with Family Conflicts".

According to the participants, migration often creates a background for the development of different conflicts, so it is very important to discuss these issues and find ways out.

Workshops were held in Terjola, Poti and Lanchkhuti.
