Active November of Kutaisi initiative groups

The members of Kutaisi Youth Club received information about the campaign of "16 Active Days Against Violence Towards the Women" and discussed the activities to be carried out within the framework of the campaign. According to them, violence is unacceptable and through informational activities it is possible to have impact on people's consciousness. This is also the purpose of their activity.

The members of the Women Initiative Group talked about local problems durin an online meeting and aimed to solve them. One of the problems is cleaning Orakhelashvili Street from thorns. Focus groups, interviews and online surveys were also discussed at the meeting. The group has experience in this area and will be involved in the research process again from December.

Activity of Tsalenjikha Initiative Groups

Pakhulani (Tsalenjikha Municipality) Women Initiative Group passed the training in survey skills. The obtained competent information will promote the quality of focus groups, interviews and surveys. In December, group members will be involved in the research process.

Lia (Tsalenjikha Municipality) Youth Initiative Group is actively involved in the campaign "16 Active Days Against Violence Towards the Women". The young people announced the ideas that will be implemented in the framework of the campaign.

Meetings - About Digital Resource Center

The participants of the meetings listened to the information about the web - page "Digital Resource Center for Violence Victims". A number of questions were asked about the mechanisms by which victims can escape a violent environment. The block of the website, which describes the stories of victims of violence appeared to be interesting. It was mentioned that these stories will be an example to many women.

In November, online meetings were held with representatives of Vani, Tsalenjikha, Terjola and Tkibuli municipalities.

During the meeting with the members of Senaki Women Initiative Group, the participants talked about the main details of the focus groups and the interview process. They shared experiences: what should be done in order to receive the necessary information, what should be considered when selecting respondents. Group members will be involved in the research from next month and similar consultations will have a positive impact on the research process.

Three meetings with Khoni groups

Information meetings were held online with Khoni initiative groups.

The members of the youth group received information about the international campaign "16 Active Days Against Violence Towards the Women". They condemn any types of violence and discussed the activities they would conduct in the framework of the campaign.

The members of the Women Initiative Group actively discussed the technical aspects of conducting focus groups, interviews and online surveys. Members of both groups have experience of similar researches. During the meetings, they analyzed the challenges they faced during the previous research. Envisaged all above mentioned, they will start research process in December.

On 16 November 2021, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia hosted a roundtable discussion “Geneva International Discussions and Women, Peace, and Security” supported by the UN Women and the United Kingdom. The purpose of the meeting was to facilitate dialogue with civil society on the peaceful resolution of the conflict and the involvement of women in peace processes. Eka Gamakharia, the representative of the Women's Fund "Sukhumi" in Tbilisi noted at the meeting the importance of creating and launching consulting platforms with women's organizations and underlined the need for more active cooperation with women's organizations on "Women, Peace, Security" issues by all state ministries. She also stressed the need for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure the involvement of women's organizations in the planning and development of a "Peaceful Conflict Resolution Strategy", including a conflict-affected society (Abkhazia, South Ossetia) and a gender dimension that would make it more viable and effective.

On November 11, 2021, the Interagency Human Rights Council held an online meeting of the Inter-Agency Commission of Gender Equality, Violence against Women, and Domestic Violence. The session was attended by representatives of relevant agencies of the central government, and representatives of international and local civil society organizations. The meeting was chaired by Niko Tatulashvili, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Human Rights.

Participants shared the key individual achievements and challenges that accompany the process of working against gender equality, women, and domestic violence.

Members of Tskaltubo Women Initiative Group are preparing for the next research. During the meeting, they once again discussed the technical side of the focus group and interviews. The risks associated with online researches were identified.

Group members have a practice of conducting research. In addition, they received thematic training on skills of conducting the focus group and in-depth interview. This experience will help them to plan and manage the process properly.

Members of Tskaltubo youth clubs discussed the activities to be carried out within the framework of the campaign. According to them, the 16-day campaign is a good opportunity to protest against violence, both youth clubs will join the international campaign with several activities.

Open Day on Women, Peace and Security

On November 5, 2021, in cooperation with the UN Resident Coordinator and representatives of various UN agencies the UN Women in Georgia held an Open Day on Women, Peace, and Security.  Open Day promotes dialogue between representatives of the UN system and civil society, women, and young people displaced and affected by the conflict.

The representative of the Women's Fund "Sukhumi" Tbilisi office was allowed to address the meeting and Marika Megrelidze (Pakhulani-Tskhoushi) and Nona Bukia (Khurcha), leaders of the initiative groups operating in the villages of the dividing line in Zugdidi and Tsalenjikha municipalities, and Marie Narmania (Zugdidi), a young activist.

Representatives of the Fund "Sukhumi" spoke about the challenges in the lives of women and young people in the villages near the border, including economic empowerment and limited employment opportunities; Infrastructure problems of schools and outpatient clinics and lack of appropriate technical equipment; Acute problems of water supply in the villages, IDPs in the dilapidated buildings of the IDP accommodation centers, the lack of proper spaces for the development of youth in the villages, etc.
