Senaki Women Support Center - Against Violence

Senaki Women Support Center joined the campaign against violence with three initiated activities.

During the meeting with the Gender Equality Council, the participants focused on the urgency and priority of the problem.

As part of the campaign, Senaki Youth Palace, Youth and Art Center were also involved. The young people held a rally, performed with elements of forum-theater, exhibited thematic paintings and distributed information flyers.

At the initiative of the Women Support Center, an information meeting was also held with the students of the Public School No 2, the participants talked about the preventive measures against the problem of violence.

The Round Tables Series N3

The round table discussions organized by the Women's Fund "Sukhumi" are over. The main goal was to develop municipal services for effective response to issues of gender-based violence - through cross-sectoral cooperation and coordination between the center, the region, and the municipalities.

At this time, the central level was represented by Maka Peradze, Head of the Human Rights Secretariat of the Government of Georgia, and Tamar Tariashvili, Member of the Permanent Parliamentary Council for Gender Equality. Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Regional Administration was represented by Nana Kakachia, a responsible person for gender issues.

The main part of the meeting was dedicated to the representatives of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Municipalities, who shared information on the existing achievements and challenges.

The lawyer and psychologist of the Fund "Sukhumi" are actively involved in the 16-day campaign. They held an online group meeting with the beneficiaries of Senaki, Terjola and Kobuleti Women Support Centers, with participation of 49 beneficiaries. The lawyer spoke about the law of Georgia on suppression of domestic violence, protection and assistance to victims and psychological conversations were on the topic “How to recognize psychological violence and not become a victim ".

Particular attention was paid to the campaign of 16 active days and to the importance of community support.

A psychologist and a lawyer, at the same time hold individual consultation meetings and help women to solve their problems.

"Red Riding Hood" messages

These posters were made jointly by the children and parents and with their sincere messages they condemned any manifestation of violence.

This is how the children, parents and teachers of Ingiri (Zugdidi Municipality) kindergarten "Tsitelkuda" ("Red Riding Hood") joined the international campaign "16 Active Days Against Violence Towards the Women".

Women Support Centers are actively involved in the 16-day campaign against violence towards the women. Within the framework of the campaign, 24 activities of different formats were planned: actions, information meetings, film discussions. Representatives of local self-government also participate in the meetings.

On November 25, Terjola Women Support Center started the campaign with round table and invited representatives from various spheres of society to speak on the topic.

Women Support Centers of Senaki, Tkibuli, Bagdati, Kobuleti, Samtredia joined the general protest together with the Gender Equality Councils and representatives of self-government.

The negative impact of violence was discussed at the meetings with women and schoolchildren in Khurcha (Zugdidi Municipality), Vani, Tsalenjikha, Chokhatauri Women Support Centers.

With each activity, the community was once again sent the message that violence against women is evil.

Protest of the youth

The youth centers of the Fund "Sukhumi" got involved in the 16-day campaign with special interest. The members of the centers, who have passed a training cycle, are conducting various activities independently now.

Information meeting, exhibition of paintings, preparation of information leaflet, discussion, film screening - this is the format of the events initiated by them. At least 20-30 students are involved in each activity. This means that dozens of young people are familiarized with actual information and express protest against violence

New group in Didi Nedzi and meetings in Koki

Fund "Sukhumi" started working in the village Didi Nedzi, Zugdidi Municipality. A women initiative group was created. Group members are motivated to get involved in project activities and help to introduce innovaions in different communities.

Another meeting was held with the initiative group of women in the village Koki. The group members are preparing for the research. Functions and responsibilities were distributed at the meeting, respondents and target beneficiaries were selected.

Koki Youth Initiative Group was actively involved in the 16-day campaign and at the next meeting the group members shared their impressions of this work: what activities they carried out, how they planned and received the results. According to them, the campaign gave young people the opportunity to protest against violence towards the women through various activities.

On December 3, 2021, by the initiative of the Office of the State Minister for Reconciliation and civil equality with the support of the United Nations Women (UN Women), a regular briefing was held for participants of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism and representatives of the civil society organizations. The meeting was attended by members of civil society, representatives of non-governmental women's organizations as well as conflict-affected women, including women living in IDP villages near the conflict dividing line, and also EUMM and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia.

Kate Fearon, Deputy Head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia, Zviad Zviadadze, Head of the Department of State for the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia and Former South Ossetia, and Deputy Director of the Information-Analytical Department of the State Security Service addressed the participants, who focused on the results of recent meetings under the Ergneti Mechanism.

The round table discussions organized by the Women Fund "Sukhumi" continue. This time the meeting was held with participation of the administration of Guria-Adjara State Attorney and local self-government officials. The central government was represented by the Deputy Head of the Human Rights Secretariat of the Government of Georgia - Eliso Shonia.

The participants of the meeting received the information about the experience of the Fund "Sukhumi" in the implementation of gender-oriented policy in local self-government - an expert in cooperation with local self-government - Ema Kamkia was the speaker. She focused on key achievements, challenges that still exist, and possible ways to respond to them.

Researcher - Nino Korinteli presented the findings and recommendations reflected in new monitoring report of the Fund "Sukhumi" - "Development of Child Care Services - to Promote Women's Employment and Ensure Effective Prevention and Response to Domestic Violence”.
