“Gender equality means equal representation, equal participation and opportunities for women and men in all spheres of public and private life…” and the achievement of gender equality is one of the key goals and priorities for the development of modern society.

An article of an expert on gender issues, the chairperson of fund "Sukhumi" Alla Gamakharia, published in the newspaper "P.S." on February 12, 2018 starts with the above mentioned words.

The article highlights important points about the need to develop gender policy both at the state and municipal level and active work on the introduction of this policy.

An article of the consultant of Fund “Sukhumi”, Ekaterina Gamakharia with the title “Inclusion of citizens in the management of local budget and improvement of own environment – interesting experience of the “Prague – 10” was published in the newspaper “Akhali gazeti” (Kutaisi).

Fund “Sukhumi’s” and experts’ interest to the Municipality “Prague – 10” was conditioned by the municipality’s experience regarding effective mechanism of citizens’ inclusion in local budget management.

Since 2015, “Prague-10” has started to practice Participatory budget with aim to mobilize citizens on issues of municipal management, which is an effective opportunity for the process of democratic discussion and decision-making.

Story in TV Company “Egrisi” tells about activities of Senaki GAC. As it was mentioned by the project assistant, the ordinary meeting of the GAC discussed results of conducted research on gender needs and started work on suggestions for self-government. There was also conversation about gender ideas of the project.
GAC members positively evaluated creation of GAC network in Georgia, which was joined by Senaki GAC.
As it was mentioned, each GAC has its own experience and the network gives possibility to widely spread it.
Also there was announced a forum, which is organized by Senaki GAC, where the representatives of Ozurgeti, Batumi and Kutaisi GAC will be invited.
The meeting was attended by the chairpersons of the fund “Sukhumi”. They gave high evaluation to the work in Senaki, which is carried out in close cooperation of the GAC with the local self-government. It concerns to raising of women representation, establishment of gender budget practice, seeking of donors. Positively were evaluated new programs of 2015, which answers to needs of different gender groups of citizens.
There was expressed a hope, that  for 2016, the work in this direction will be increased in this direction.

TV Company “Egrisi” in Senaki aired information regarding ordinary meeting of Senaki GAC, regarding preoperational work of local gender needs research. As the respondents mention the aim of the research is socially oriented local budget, more fair allocation of local resources which should be based on recommendations received as a result of the research.
 
Attention was paid to one gender need. This is protection of women from domestic violence, which is served by psychological and legal consultations organized in fund “Sukhumi” Senaki GAC. What services have the WSCs and how pleased are the beneficiaries – fund “Sukhumi” psychologist, lawyer, meeting participants, local and IDP women.

Kindergarten No 33 is the first innovator pre-school premise in Kutaisi, where exists the club of grandfathers together with the ones of parents.
“Grandfathers’ Club” was founded by the grandpas – joined under common idea. Nowadays the club has 12 members. The aim of the club is doing useful things, which will be benefit for the grandchildren and kindergarten.
They have lots of ideas, though active grandpas are often worried by lack of finances.

On the air of the radio "Rioni" a program was held within the framework of the project "Studying the experience of the Visegrad to advocate for equal, inclusive and democratic governance at the local level". The purpose of the program is to inform the societies about the project, to reveal the first visible results.

The participants of the program - the project leaders, experts - touched the civil participation in local governance, the importance of introducing gender approaches in practice. Summarizing the work done within the project - getting acquainted with Czech experience in terms of introducing civil involvement, meeting with students from Kutaisi universities - where the visions and aspirations of young people, to participate in the implementation of programs important for society were recorded.

It was also announced a meeting with the Imereti municipalities planned for the near future, where the Georgian and European practices on the implementation of "civil budgets" will be exchanged.

On December 15, “gender news” of the radio “Freedom” touched current activities of Batumi Gender Advisory Council.
The interviews showed attitude of council members and the partners towards future activities. it was mentioned that besides advocacy of vulnerable groups needs and successful implementation of current projects, advocacy of legislative changes should be actively carried out on the local level. It will increase local self-government eligibility and competence to solve different gender challenges. There was raised the role of GAC network and necessity of collaboration with self-government to elaborate relevant recommendations with local authorities. 

 

The Radio “Dzveli kalaki” aired a program, organized by the fund “Sukhumi”, where the members of Kutaisi GAC (representatives of the fund “Sukhumi”, Kutaisi Sakrebulo, local NGOs) talked about participation of Kutaisi GAC in formation of local gender policy. Mainly: where ids the beginning of suggestions and recommendations, what is the position of local government regarding them, which issue will be reflected in new budget.
The guests of the program touched participation in the campaign of 16 active days and defined necessary activities regarding protection of women from gender violence.

In the air of TV Company “Egrisi” there was aired a program, which summarized the work of Senaki GAC.

The first part of the program was devoted to conference, held by the GAC in Senaki. Special story was also prepared for this event.

In the second part there was a conversation about results of three-year activities, which showed necessity of gender approaches for development of municplaity.

At the end of the program, there was expressed a hope that GAC will continue the work, as new institutional mechanism.

Radio rubric "Tavisupleba" covered the meeting held by the initiative of Fund “Sukhumi” with the members of the Gender Equality Council of Imereti and Samergelo region, as well as with gender advisors and the representatives of local self-government involved in the process of gender budget planning.

In the interview respondents talked about their experiences in implementing gender policy and about challenges. They hope that the recommendations elaborated at the meeting will be used to effectively promote gender policy at the local level.
