Meetings - in this category there is an information about meetings in frames of Fund “Sukhumi” projects - meetings with beneficiaries, representatives of state structures, local and international non-governmental organizations.

Ordinary informational meeting was held in Batumi IDP settlement. About 3000 families reside in 22 3-storied buildings. Most of them were resettled from Tskaltubo collective centers.
Unemployment was named as No 1 problem among the IDPs. They mentioned that with the reason of non-payment electricity and gas are often turn off. Lots of them have bank loans.
By the words of resident of the settlement – Jaba Beridze, last year there was a fire on their staircase. So the corridor needs rehabilitation. The residents ask local structures and Ministry of Refugees and Accommodation for help.

From May 1, the fund “Sukhumi” in partnership with the national network of protection from violence, started a work with new beneficiaries – people with disabilities.
On May 13 an informational meeting was held in Kutaisi attended by 14 beneficiaries. They received information regarding a project, goals and tasks of fund “Sukhumi”.
It was defined that after three months work public organization should be registered, in order to give such people possibility to carry out advocacy of their problems, write project and gain finances. 
 
 

 

On My 11, the 16-th meeting of Kutaisi Gender Advisory Council was held. The participants discussed the problems and prospects, connected with co-financing of the project “Gender education in pre-school premises”, submitted by the GAC to the City Hall. The meeting was attended by the representatives of Kutasisi pre-school unity. Paata Kldiashvili (head of the department for economical development and local possession) mentioned that the project was co-financed by Kutasisi pre-school unity, which will be signed by joint agreement.
GAC also worked on how to effectively conduct sociological research “gender needs evaluation in the context of local development”.
After familiarizing with research methodology, the council members disseminated functions and agreed organizational issues.

In the first district of Ozurgeti - village Nasakirali, representative of the fund “Sukhumi” met repatriant Meskhaetians and familiarized with their problems.
There are lots of problems – resident are worried with unemployment and many other issues.
There is no kindergarten. As for school, Rozeta Skamkochaishvili mentioned that the school will not be open for 30 pupils. Children go to school in near village and are provided by transport.
There are also concrete problems – 45 year old Naili Bitsadze (operated on a leg), takes care of disabled grandpa, who is 87 and lives in damaged house (damaged ladder, windows, ruined ceilling). They have hard situation, but were stopped social allowance. They address the fund Sukhumi“ and Gender Advisory Council for help.

The meeting of Ozurgeti Gender Advisory Council was devoted to evaluation of gender needs, which will be carried out in the villages of municipality (last year the area of the research was Ozurgeti).
The meeting was held on the methods of work-shop research. The participants were explained the principles of in-depth interviews, focus-groups and inquires. The groups were allocated and the respondents were chosen.

The ordinary informational meeting in Senaki, Fund "Sukhumi" held with the representatives of ethnical minorities - with assiriyans. Assyrians have been living for almost a hundred years on Chavchavadze Street. 50 families have preserved their language, writing (especially - the older generation). Young people study in Georgian schools.
As they say, they have a tradition similar to Georgian, as the Christian faith is common. But there is a difference, for example, in the ritual of marriage.
During the meeting, among many issues, special attention was given to the river that runs along the house and is very dirty, but the population on their own cannot do anything.
To eradicate the problem, with the help of an assistant, the population the same day addressed Gamgeoba Municipality, City Council and the Gender Advisory Council with the statement.

The ordinary meeting of Senaki Gender Advisory Council was devoted to preparation of gender needs’ evaluation. The evaluation is planned in May. The representative of the fund “Sukhumi” conducted special work-shop regarding methods and techniques of the research.
During the discussion target groups, time-line were defined. Also there were the issues, connected with implementation of the project carried out by Senaki GAC in Senaki kindergartens.

The next informational meeting was held with IDPs living in Kutaisi, Nikea street by the Assistant of the Fund "Sukhumi" in a 5-storey building of the former Co-operative College. Residents of rehabilitated collective center of IDPs talked about their own problems. They noted the need the yard landscaping, gardening, playground for children.
Behind the building there is metal-plastic Enterprise - the noise interferes people. Unsanitary conditions near the building require special attention and fast solutions.
Assistant and lawyer of the Fund "Sukhumi" were familiarized with these problems. The process of solving problems has already begun - IDPs themselves were actively involved in advocacy – they applied to the local structures.

In April mobilizers of Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Khoni, Senaki, Porti and Khurcha (Zugdidi Municipality) Women Support Centers conducted informational meetings in local self-government, atted Sakrebulo meetings.
They also met representatives of social agencies and presented them information regarding activities of the centers. Free legal assistance and psychological consultations and collaboration in this direction was particularly mentioned.

On April 22 a regular meeting of Batumi GAC was held. The meeting was attended by leaders of Fund "Sukhumi” who reviewed the issues that are included in the agenda on this stage.
By decision of the GAC, most members will be included in the assessment of gender needs, which is carried out by the support of the Fund "Sukhumi" for the second time in Batumi. Time and research performers were identified.
The information was announced about the projects to be submitted to the mayor for self-financing.  A list of questions was prepared, that determine the agenda of the meeting with the Gender Council of the Parliament.
It was revealed that the scope of cooperation of the GAC with local public organizations increase.The meeting was attended by representatives of two organizations and they discussed the prospects for future cooperation.
Long-term strategy of advocacy to specific problems was scheduled, in which will be included gender advisers of Sakrebulo and the City Hall. Two vulnerable families have already received primary care.
At the meeting, there was discussion about interesting initiatives, among them - the issue of gender education of self- government staff.
